Wolves are ready to table a contract offer for Hull City forward Abel Hernandez as he reaches the end of his deal at the KCOM Stadium, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb claims that talks are underway between Wolves and the Uruguay international, who is set to be offered a deal worth £50,000-a-week as well as a £4.4million signing fee.
It is understood that Celtic are also interested in Hernandez, who has scored eight goals in his last nine appearances for Hull.
Football Insider verdict
Hernandez has spent a lot of the season out injured and while he would be a cheap signing for Wolves, he is probably one that they should avoid given how they may be able to snap up more high-profile forwards in the summer. Hernandez has only played 10 times for Hull this term due to a serious Achilles injury. Since returning to fitness, the 27-year-old has struggled to play week in week out, so there may still be some kind of underlying issue. Achilles injuries are nasty as well and over time it may seriously hinder the Uruguayan’s career. It will impact his mobility and jumping reach, which will definitely be key to any striker in the Premier League. He still managed to get among the goals at Hull, but the Premier League will probably overwhelm the ex-Palermo forward. Celtic may be a better move for him, but he could price himself out of a move up north as £50,000-a-week will far exceed the top earners at Celtic Park.
