Raul Jimenez may already regret his decision to return to Wolves as Molineux Stadium becomes shrouded in managerial controversy.

The Mexico international spent five wonderful seasons in the Black Country, on loan and permanently, where he notched 57 goals and 22 assists in 166 appearances.

He was a fan favourite in every corner of the stadium, before eventually sealing a move to Fulham in the summer of 2023, where, once again, supporters fell in love with his work ethic.

Now, Jimenez has made a fairytale return to Molineux after the Old Gold's relegation to the Championship, joined by experienced right-back Kieran Trippier.

Everything appeared to be falling into place for an immediate return to the Premier League. The club's owners, however, have decided to throw a spanner in the works.

Although bringing in Cesar Peixoto could be a masterstroke, the incoming manager may have to do it all without the backing of Wolves' new 35-year-old centre-forward.

Rob Edwards tossed aside by Wolves hierarchy

It is understood that Rob Edwards played a huge role in bringing both Jimenez and Trippier to Molineux on free transfers this summer.

He was in meetings with the hierarchy as recently as Friday, 5 June, discussing next steps, but he has now been relieved of his duties after just seven months in charge.

The brutal side to this all is that the former Middlesbrough man discovered his fate on social media, calling those at Molineux to discuss the truth of these reports.

It is quite a story emerging from the Black Country, and it could have dire impacts for Wolves' latest arrivals, who may have been given fake promises ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Jimenez has every right to question the hierarchy's morales, even if Peixoto can bring a promotion-winning campaign to Molineux.

What did Edwards say about Raul Jimenez's arrival?

Looking back at Edwards' quotes on the signing of Jimenez, it is abundantly clear that he had no signs of what was about to come.

Edwards said: “We’re delighted that Raul’s here and I know everyone will be very excited. It’s going to be so much easier for me to be able to demand what I’m going to demand of the players, because he’s lived it, he knows the levels, so I’m very, very pleased.

Those are not the words of someone, who is expecting to be out of job within days. The whole situation raises alarm bells over the factors in Jimenez's decision-making.

It could also spark other players to question their futures at Molineux Stadium. This is unlikely to the last supporters hear of chaos emerging from the Old Gold squad ahead of next season.
