Three free agents Wolves could still sign to solve Cesar Peixoto’s winger crisis

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ summer transfer window was highly disappointing for a number of supporters.

Despite some big departures, little has been spent to upgrade the squad, and this was on show in the 4-2 defeat to West Ham United on Tuesday.

One of the most glaring issues is the club’s lack of a quality winger, with Cesar Peixoto lacking options on the bench.

However, despite the transfer window now being closed, Wolves could still look to the free agent market to bring in a winger.

This has worked well for the Old Gold side in the past, with players such as Diego Costa coming in and making an impact.

Wolves desperately need attacking reinforcements

Against West Ham, the lack of attacking options from the bench was clear.

Rodrigo Gomes and Mateus Mane were clearly ineffective at the London Stadium, but Peixoto’s only choice was to bring on Adam Armstrong, who is a natural striker, and the young Tawanda Chirewa.

While Rafiki Said will be an option once he returns from injury, it is clear something needs to be done in the short-term.

One potential option is Reiss Nelson, who cancelled his contract at Arsenal last week.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Brentford and has the quality to drop down into the Championship and do a job.

Ryan Kent is also yet to find a new club after being released by Seattle Sounders in January.

The 29-year-old had once been a vital player for Rangers between 2019 and 2023, where he helped the club reach the Europa League final.

A final option for Wolves could be Solly March, who ended his long stay at Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

The winger is highly experienced, and at 32 years old, he could still make a big impact on the pitch in the Championship.

Are Wolves expected to complete any more business?

Despite the transfer window now being closed in the Championship, Wolves are still expected to seal at least two more signings.

Liam Keen has reported that both Ghislain Konan and Sean Neave are expected to join the club and could be announced on Wednesday.

In contrast, Sam Johnstone is still expected to join Celtic on loan, with the Scottish transfer window not closing until Thursday.

However, it remains to be seen if and when these deals will be made official.
