Wolves ‘advancing’ in move to sign Jordan James – journalist
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly advancing in a move to complete a sensational deal for Rennes’ Jordan James this summer.
The 22-year-old central midfielder is valued at around £10million by the Ligue 1 club and could become the Old Gold’s fourth first-team signing of the summer.
James has been heavily linked to a host of Championship clubs this summer, including Middlesbrough, West Ham United and Burnley.
This comes after the midfielder had an impressive loan spell at Leicester City last season, where he scored 11 times and picked up four assists despite their relegation to League One.
Wolves have been chasing a new central midfielder since the departure of Joao Gomes to Aston Villa last month.
Cesar Peixoto’s side kick-start their Championship campaign on Friday as they host Blackburn Rovers at Molineux.
Wolves close in on Jordan James signing
If Wolves were to complete the signing of Jordan James, it would no doubt be a statement to the rest of the Championship.
The midfielder was excellent at Leicester last season and was awarded the Championship Young Player of the Season Award for his performances.
James is also an established international and has picked up 26 caps for Wales to date.
Therefore, if Alex Crook’s report is correct and Wolves do go on to sign the 22-year-old in the coming weeks, it could go a long way to ensuring that the club returns to the Premier League this season.
However, it remains to be seen if the Old Gold side can get a deal over the line for the midfielder.
What other business could Wolves complete this summer?
Reports emerged on Wednesday that Wolves have greenlit the exit of four first-team players this summer.
Hwang Hee-Chan, Boubacar Traore, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sasa Kalajdzic are all allowed to leave the club before the transfer window closes.
On top of this, there could be an exit in the goalkeeping department, with either Sam Johnstone or Jose Sa departing.
Other sales are also likely, but Wolves are happy to see the four aforementioned players leave the club.
Hwang was the only one mentioned who remained in the first-team throughout the 2025-26 campaign, with the others having spells away on loan at some point during the season.
