Wolves green light four player exits as Hwang Hee-Chan transfer decision is made – journalist
Wolverhampton Wanderers are prepared to let flop Hwang Hee-Chan depart the club this summer transfer window after struggling for months at Molineux.
Reports emerged on Wednesday that the Old Gold club is happy to let the South Korean international go alongside Boubacar Traore, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sasa Kalajdzic.
On top of this, there could be an additional exit from the goalkeeper department, with either Jose Sa or Sam Johnstone heading for the exit.
Other sales are likely, but the aforementioned four players seem to be the only ones who have been made available for transfer so far.
Hwang is no doubt the most eye-catching name on this list, with the 30-year-old being part of the first-team for the past five seasons.
However, in the last two campaigns, the winger has been particularly poor and has only netted five times in his last 56 games in all competitions.
Hwang Hee-Chan allowed to leave Wolves this summer
Speculation surrounding Hwang’s future at Wolves has increased in recent weeks.
After featuring in the 2026 World Cup with South Korea, the attacker did not feature in pre-season and was not part of the squad in Wolves’ 3-0 victory over Port Vale in the Carabao Cup on Friday.
Now, The Telegraph’s report has perhaps indicated why, with the club happy to allow Hwang to depart after once again losing his form.
The forward was once one of the club’s best attackers under Gary O’Neill in the 2023-24 campaign, where he netted 12 Premier League goals.
However, after an injury in the Asian Cup, he never returned to form, which resulted in heavy scrutiny from sections of the fanbase.
Should Hwang be sold this summer?
According to Fotmob on 12 August, Hwang was highly inconsistent up top last season.
On average, he produced 0.12 goals, a 0.15 xG, 1.18 shots, 0.37 shots on target, 0.12 assists, a 0.10 xA, 0.93 chances created and 0.19 big chances created per 90 minutes in the Premier League.
Therefore, Hwang was often unreliable up top, and it is perhaps little surprise that Wolves are happy to get rid of him this summer.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if anyone is willing to sign Hwang in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, or if he will remain part of the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
