Wolves fans fear the worst after Matt Jackson reveal in exit announcement

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans fear that the club is no longer set for a summer rebuild this summer.

The Old Gold made their first major sale of the summer on Monday as Joao Gomes made the move to Aston Villa.

The midfielder is set to leave a big hole at Molineux, but many supporters would like to see more players leave after their disastrous Premier League campaign last season.

However, this seems more and more unlikely by the day, especially after technical director Matt Jackson stated he “liked the shape” of Wolves at the minute after Gomes’ sale.

As it stands, the Old Gold side has only brought in three players this summer, with two coming before Cesar Peixoto was even appointed.

Wolves had been expected to win promotion by the fanbase this season, but there is now a growing fear that this won’t happen.

Wolves fans still want to see a summer rebuild

It is of little surprise that much of the Wolves squad is still unpopular with the Old Gold faithful.

The club were essentially relegated in November after a horrific showing in the Premier League throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

Therefore, this summer, there was a hope that many players in the squad would be moved on, ready for their return to the Championship.

However, Jackson’s recent quotes to Wolves make this seem unlikely.

In one section, he said: “We've had two weeks of training and Cesar and his coaches are getting to know the players more and more, and the bond they’re building is a real positive. 

“Of course, there's going to be changes before the end of the transfer window, absolutely, but we really like the shape that we're in at the moment.”

As a result, many Wolves fans took to X outraged, as they now believe little transfer activity will take place between now and the end of the window.

Who else is expected to leave Wolves this summer?

While Wolves fans may not see the summer rebuild that they have hoped for, it appears that Tolu Arokodare will be sold in the coming weeks.

The striker was awful in his debut season at Molineux as he netted just six times in all competitions.

As a result, Wolves are keen to offload the Nigeria international, who is clearly not up to standard.

Fiorentina and Trabzonspor have both reportedly been eyeing the striker, and a deal could soon be struck before the transfer window comes to a conclusion.

However, it remains to be seen if Wolves will ever be able to recoup their £23.4million fee for the flop after his transfer from Genk last summer.
