Wolves star given green light to jet out for medical after deal agreed
Club America have agreed a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Santiago Bueno, sources have told Football Insider.
The centre-back is set to sign for the Mexican club on loan for the rest of the season, despite the English transfer window being closed.
Club America also have an option to buy the Uruguay international, and he is now set to travel to Mexico to undergo a medical and sign a contract.
This news comes after it was confirmed that Bueno was not in Wolves’ registered squad for the Championship campaign.
The Old Gold side needed to leave someone out after they had signed Bertrand Traore on a free transfer.
Now, it appears that all parties have found a solution as Bueno closes in on an exit.
Santiago Bueno set to sign for Club America
Am broke the news regarding Bueno’s impending move to Club America on Wednesday.
The news of Bueno’s departure will be of little surprise to the Molineux faithful, given he is no longer in Cesar Peixoto’s plans.
This is despite many fans being keen to keep last campaign’s Player of the Season given the club’s ongoing defensive issues.
However, losing either Bueno or Ladislav Krejci seemed inevitable after Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Old Gold side will come to regret this decision in the coming months as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Next two Championship matches are crucial for Wolves
After failing to win either of their last two matches, Wolves need to ensure they pick up four points from their next two Championship clashes.
On Sunday, they travel to Sheffield United, before they host West Bromwich Albion the following weekend, two games which are both winnable.
Wolves no doubt need to build some momentum before the international break, and four points would see a feel-good factor return to Molineux.
If this isn’t achieved, Peixoto could find himself already under pressure ahead of a difficult run of fixtures in October.
However, it remains to be seen how Wolves will perform over the next two weeks, with the club also tasked with a trip to Everton in the Carabao Cup before the international break.
