Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed the perfect hitman in Raul Jimenez, who scored for Mexico in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup against South Africa on Thursday.

The co-hosts of the tournament welcomed Bafana Bafana to the Azteca on 11 June, winning 2-0 after goals from Julian Quinones and the 35-year-old striker.

After three relatively successful years at Fulham, the Mexican centre-forward will return to Molineux on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year deal.

With Jimenez playing up top for Wolves, they will certainly feel Premier League promotion is guaranteed at the end of next season if the attacker continues to find the back of the net consistently.

Despite the striker's age, it's clear that he still possesses the qualities to play an instrumental role at the West Midlands outfit in the 2026-27 campaign.

The attacker made a name for himself at Molineux before suffering a dip after his head injury, but he's proven at Craven Cottage that he can be a reliable number nine for the incoming manager in WV1.

Wolves fix glaring issue after Premier League relegation

Wolves' relegation from the Premier League wasn't surprising after scoring the least and conceding the second-most goals in the English top flight.

Four players registered three league goals each for the West Midlands outfit, the highest in the squad, with defender Santiago Bueno being one of them.

Rob Edwards was handed Adam Armstrong in the winter transfer window after Jorgen Strand Larsen's departure to Crystal Palace.

Tolu Arokodare and Hwang Hee-chan failed to give Wolves the firepower needed up front and fans in WV1 will hope Jimenez secures the goals needed to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Nathan Shi takes major gamble at Molineux

Football Insider have covered Wolves' shocking decision to sack Edwards, with Cesar Peixoto expected to replace the former Middlesbrough manager.

Nathan Shi, the West Midlands outfit's executive chairman, has certainly taken a massive risk by deciding to move on from the 43-year-old head coach, who had Boro in a decent position in the Championship before moving to Molineux.

The coming weeks will surely be pivotal for Wolves, who undoubtedly need more characters like Jimenez to achieve their goals next season.
