Paul Robinson admits he has been blown away by the performances of West Brom winger Matheus Pereira after stealing the limelight once again against Bristol City.

The former Leeds and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says he cannot believe that the Baggies managed to poach Sporting CP for his loan capture this summer.

The 23-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season on Wednesday night with a deftly chipped free-kick against the Robins, helping Slaven Bilic’s men pull off a convincing 4-1 win at the Hawthorns.

Robinson says that the Brazilian talent is something special and says his record in the final third, when it comes to goals and assists, has been remarkable.

Robinson told Football Insider: “How they’ve got him, if he’s on loan from Sporting they must have one hell of a squad if he’s only on loan. He’s outstanding.

“His movement, his goals, his assists as well. Four goals and 10 assists already, looking at his stats, from midfield. He’s key to what they do – his pace, his directness, his ability to keep the ball.

“I think his assists are going to be more valuable to West Brom than his goals but he’s scoring goals from midfield too. He’s a massive asset, the amount of assists he’s already got this year, that’s worth his weight in gold. It’s looking like West Brom and Leeds are going to be the ones to catch.”

Pereira netted his first goal of the campaign against QPR in September and went on to score a total of three goals in five games for the Baggies.

Victory leaves Bilic and his men sitting at the top of the Championship table, their next game coming against fellow promotion pushers Preston North End on Monday.

In other West Brom news, Darren Bent has warned the club of a potential U-turn over a “great signing” at the Hawthorns.
