Darren Bent gushed over the idea of West Ham signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international claimed signing the proven keeper would be great as the Hammers clearly have to do something regarding their shot-stopper woes.
It was recently reported that Manuel Pellegrini’s side were keen on signing Begovic with him potentially available once his loan spell at Azerbaijani club Qarabag ends on December 31st.
Bent explained that while David Martin has done okay between the sticks, given that Roberto is “awful” the Hammers need a new shot-stopper to arrive.
When asked if signing Begovic would be brilliant for West Ham, Bent told Football Insider: “They need to do something as they’ve got David Martin in the sticks at the moment who did well against Chelsea.
“Losing Fabianski was a big blow as he’s a very good goalkeeper and Roberto was awful and I mean awful as he caused all kind of problems.
“They need to address that issue as it’s been costing them points.
“And for me, it would be a great signing if they could go out and get Begovic as he has done some good things.”
Begovic has played 252 times in the Premier League during his career and has racked up 61 clean sheets in his appearances.
In his 2019/20 campaign so far, the 32-year-old has registered six clean sheets and conceded 15 goals in the 15 outings he has made for Qarabag.
