Celtic will want £30million for Ryan Christie after his amazing transformation in the last 12 months.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, as he delivered his verdict on the 24-year-old following his outstanding start to the season.
Christie scored his first Scotland goal with an outstanding strike in Saturday’s win over Cyprus following an outstanding start to the campaign for Celtic.
The 24-year-old’s future was up in the air at the start of last season after failing to get in the Hoops’ side following his return from a series of loan moves.
“Ryan Christie is becoming pivotal for club and country,” Whelan told Football Insider. “You look at him now winning games for Celtic and Scotland and you have to say it’s an astonishing transformation in just over a year.
“His career at Celtic was going nowhere at one point, Brendan Rodgers didn’t appear to rate him. Now, wow, you’re looking at a £30million player.
“It would take a ridiculous sum for another club to buy him now. I’ve seen players with less ability than Christie go for more than £30million.
“It would need to be a massively attractive proposition to tempt him away from Celtic.”
Christie started establishing himself in the Hoops starting XI in the autumn of last year and now he’s keeping the likes of Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham out of the team.
He’s scored 12 goals and supplied seven assists from 24 matches for Celtic this season as well as breaking his Scotland duck at the weekend.
