Tables turned: Arsenal transfer tussle turns nasty after Steve Rowley move – report
By Harry Sykes
Arsenal are trying to prise wonderkid Jadon Sancho from Manchester City in an increasingly bitter pursuit, according to a report.
The Sun claim the Gunners’ bid to sign the 16-year-old winger “is turning nasty” as they make concerted attempts to land the youngster.
It is said that Arsenal’s long-standing chief scout Steve Rowley has been leading the pursuit of Sancho, which has prompted fears at Etihad Stadium that the London club are pulling out all the stops to land him.
City have plucked a number of senior stars from Arsenal during the Abu Dhabi era, with Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy all attracted by the riches on offer from the cash-rich Manchester club.
Now the tables have been turned as Arsenal attempt to sign the jet-heeled teenager.
Sancho was signed from Watford for £500,000 in 2015 and has become an increasingly significant player for City’s youth teams as well as being capped six times by England at Under-17 level.
The youngster, who turns 17 next month, plays predominantly on the left winger and has a burgeoning reputation as a scorer and creator of goals.
He is already a regular in City’s Under-23s team and has made four appearances at that level this season, scoring two goals.
