Sources: Burnley in advanced talks to sign Man City star Taylor Harwood-Bellis

Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Man City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Football Insider understands.

New boss Vincent Kompany has made the England Under-21 international a priority signing after managing him when in charge of Anderlecht last season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley are close to winning the race for Harwood-Bellis.

A number of clubs have enquired about the 20-year-old, but he is happy and keen to link up with Kompany once again.

The Clarets are in need of centre-backs ahead of the new season after seeing James Tarkowski and Ben Mee leave Turf Moor earlier this summer.

Everton are set to announce the signing of Tarkowski, who will be available as a free agent when his contract expires on 30 June.

Mee is without a club following 11 years and 376 appearances with Burnley.

Harwood-Bellis has made seven appearances for Man City since his debut for the Premier League champions in September 2019.

The centre-half spent the first half of last season on loan at Anderlecht.

He made 19 appearances for the Belgian giants and grabbed two assists.

A product of City’s esteemed academy, Harwood-Bellis returned to Manchester in January before embarking on a domestic loan.

The England under-21 international joined Stoke City for the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

He made 23 appearances for Michael O’Neill’s side.

His contract at the Etihad runs until the end of June 2024.
