Alan Stubbs: This Celtic 27-year-old has been as good as Dembele this season

Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs has claimed that Scott Sinclair has been ‘as good as’ Moussa Dembele this season.

The two summer signings have been in scintillating form for the Buoys this season with Sinclair grabbing the headlines as he scored a wonder goal in his sides 3-0 win over Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

Stubbs, who was speaking on the Alan Brazil show on TalkSport radio, said: “It was fantastic technique [for the goal] and I think he has been as good as Dembele this season.

“Dembele has got all the headlines, scoring goals, but he [Sinclair] has made a huge contribution to Celtic.”

Sinclair, 27, scored his 13th goal of the season in all competitions against Albion Rovers, which compared to the 20 of Dembele is a very good return for a winger who has struggled to get his career back on track since leaving Swansea for Manchester City in 2012.

The former Chelsea and Aston Villa winger has appeared to make himself at home in the Scottish Premiership.

In 119 English Premier League games, Sinclair found the net just 13 times and made six assists, but with only 17 Scottish league games under his belt, he finds himself close to them totals already with 11 league goals and three assists.

He has been pivotal in Celtic’s success this season, as they sit 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership going into the first league game following the winter break against St. Johnstone on Wednesday night.
