£12m ace reportedly allowed to leave: Celtic must beat English clubs to sign prolific striker on loan – opinion

Celtic should re-establish the rivalry with Old Firm enemies Rangers by signing former Light Blues striker Ross McCormack from Aston Villa this summer.

The Daily Mail claims that the 30-year-old striker, who was signed by Championship side Aston Villa last summer for £12million, will be allowed to leave the Midlands outfit this window.

It is said that Villa’s domestic rivals Sunderland have opened talks to sign the attacker, with manager Simon Grayson looking to form a reunion after working with McCormack at Leeds.

The level of rivalry between Celtic and Rangers has been somewhat lost after the Hoops secured five Old Firm victories in six games, finishing 39 points above Pedro Caixinha’s side.

Rodgers has already added three new signings to his side in Jonny Hayes, Oliver Ntcham and Kundai Benyu, but McCormack should be added to that list in order to rile up Rangers fans ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
