Conte must get his man: Three things learned about Chelsea from win at Everton

By Matt Bullin

Football Insider analyses the three hottest talking points from Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea need Lukaku

Diego Costa did not have a bad game by any stretch, and he returned to form last time out with a brace. But Lukaku looked twice the player. The Belgian looked faster, stronger and more composed than Costa, and although the service to him was limited, he looked dangerous whenever he had opportunities. Chelsea and Conte are rumoured to be interested in the 23-year-old – after today there is no question that he would be an upgrade on Costa and that they should sign him.

Pedro is the real deal

Pedro scored an absolute belter to break the deadlock and it was his eight league goal of the season. Questions were raised when he was picked ahead of Cesc Fabregas to start in such a crucial game but he justified his selection. The forward has been a revelation since Conte arrived at Stamford Bridge, and his performances have transformed this season from where he was last term.

You cannot keep Hazard out of the game

Everton tried to employ the tactic Man United did when they beat the league leaders at Old Trafford by marking Hazard out of the game. Idrissa Gueye was handed with the task and he did an okay job in truth. But there was nothing he could do when the Belgium’s low free kick was turned in by Gary Cahill late on to secure Chelsea three points. The 26-year-old has now provided six assists in the Premier League to go with his 15 goals.

In other Chelsea news, the Blues fans mocked their own club after it named Cech in the starting line-up versus Everton.
