Insider names Tottenham starting XI v Burnley after ‘bold’ Nuno decision

Tottenham will make no more than two changes when they face Burnley in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham have named two completely different starting sides in their last two games.

Both games, against West Ham and Vitesse, ended in 1-0 losses with pressure firmly back on Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs face Manchester United next weekend but Wenham isn’t expecting Nuno to name a much-changed side on Wednesday.

He claims the Portuguese will make no more than two changes from Sunday’s loss to the hammers with Steven Bergwijn, Giovanni Lo Celso and Bryan Gil in the frame to come in.

“I think Nuno will go very strong,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I can tell you this. I think he will say to the players ‘you had a full week off last week so now you are playing twice this week’.

“That was a bold call from Nuno and it didn’t pay off.

“I think we will be almost full strength at Burnley with the hope of getting the job done in 90 minutes.

“We will want to avoid another penalty shootout. I can see one or two coming in.

“I think we could see Bryan Gil come in and then either one of Lo Celso or Bergwijn.

“I don’t expect many changes at all. Burnley will rotate heavily, they always do in the Cup.

“They only have about 16 senior players and they need to focus on staying in the league.”

Burnley are 18th in the Premier League.

They beat Rochdale 4-1 to secure a clash against Tottenham.
