Pundit shares emphatic Alex Iwobi claim as Everton talks open

Paul Robinson has insisted Alex Iwobi is playing “some of the best football of his career” at Everton as he enters talks to extend his Goodison Park stay.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Toffees boss Frank Lampard is “getting the best out of” the 26-year-old at present.

According to the Liverpool Echo (18 September), Everton have opened contract talks with Iwobi – who has become an “integral part” of Frank Lampard’s side.

The Nigeria international’s current deal is set to expire in June 2024.

The report claims Anthony Gordon and Jordan Pickford are also in discussions about extending their time at the club.

Iwobi has been utilised in a central midfield berth this season and has played 90 minutes in each of Everton’s seven league games – claiming two assists.

Robinson hailed the former Arsenal man’s “versatility” – which allows him to play centrally as well as on both flanks.

He told Football Insider: “I like him.

“I like his versatility.

“His performances have been outstanding. He’s shown that he can play off the left, off the right, he can play centrally.

“I think you can see that Frank Lampard is getting the best out of him right now.

“He’s playing some of the best football of his career right now.”

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard on the touchline

Iwobi signed for Everton in 2019, with the Merseysiders paying Arsenal a reported potential fee of £34million for his services.

He provided the assist for Neal Maupay as the Toffees claimed their first Premier League win of the season against West Ham on Sunday (18 September).
