£5m-rated international may head to Celtic if senior duo quit Parkhead – report
Hibernian midfielder John McGinn could head to Celtic in the summer transfer window if Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic quit the Parkhead club, according to a report.
The Herald claims that Hibs manager Neil Lennon has been told that Scotland international McGinn, 23, will be sold in the summer if a club matches his £5million asking price.
Celtic senior duo Armstrong and Rogic could be off in the coming months as they will both enter the final years of their contracts at the end of the season.
The Bhoys can have a battle to sign McGinn though as the Daily Record has reported that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is eyeing up a summer swoop for the midfield dynamo.
Football Insider verdict
Celtic fans don’t seem to be fans of McGinn, but it’s clear that he is probably the best midfielder in the Scottish Premiership outside of Parkhead and Brendan Rodgers must do what he can to sign up the Scotland international in the summer. Although £5million is a lot for Celtic, whose record spend is only £6million, it will definitely be a worthwhile investment. McGinn could be worth at least double that in a couple of years of tearing it up at Celtic Park, earning medals and Champions League experience. He is only 23-years-old and there is still a lot to come from him. It’s likely that he will leave Hibernian in the summer as he, like Rogic and Armstrong, will enter the last year of his contract. Ideally, Rodgers should look to keep hold of the Australia and Scotland internationals, but if he can replace them with high quality players like McGinn then it should not be a problem at all.
In other Celtic news, Rodgers must make good on this transfer promise and sign an £8million-rated defender who blew away Lionel Messi.
