£60m worth of Everton talent Sam Allardyce must offload in brutal January exodus
James McCarthy
In 2013, McCarthy became Everton’s second most expensive player when he arrived from Wigan for a whopping £13million.
Over four years later, the Republic of Ireland international is showing signs that he simply isn’t the player that he once was and is the first name that Allardyce should consider offloading in what will be a brutal January transfer window for the Goodison Park fringe players.
McCarthy, 27, has not long returned from a serious knee injury but has still made just one appearance this season.
The midfielder is nowhere near the Everton first-team and to get him off the wage bill would be a good first move by Allardyce, who has other areas of the squad to strengthen.
