Emerson Royal will be axed by Tottenham after deal is ‘terminated’ – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed Pedro Porro will replace Emerson Royal in the starting XI at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back was not surprised Matt Doherty was the player to leave this month.

On Tuesday (31 January), the Lilywhites confirmed the signing of Porro from Sporting CP on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy.

The London club also confirmed the departure of Doherty whose contract was terminated in order for him to join Atletico Madrid.

One of Antonio Conte’s other right-back options Djed Spence has joined Rennes on loan for the remainder of the season.

Hutton wasn’t surprised Doherty and Spence were the ones to go.

In my mind something had to move, there had to be some sort of movement,” he told Football Insider.

Porro has come in for a lot of money which tells you he is probably going to start. He is an exciting player, likes to get forward. They already had three there so something had to give.

Tottenham

Spence has gone to Rennes which I agree with. He is not playing he has to get out and get game time and Doherty was probably the one that would go when Emerson Royal has not been there that long.

To terminate his agreement was something to do with having hit their max on loan players. It is a great move for him. You look at Kieran Trippier who went there and excelled and came back a better player.
