‘Massive job’ – Celtic attacker pulls no punches ahead of cup clash v Rangers
Celtic attacker Leigh Griffiths has admitted that thoughts have already turned towards next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers.
The Hoops striker scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Hamilton, and then disclosed that even though the Hoops are only one win away from clinching the league title, the Scottish Cup takes top priority, pulling no punches over the importance of the clash at Hampden Park.
“The quicker we get it done the better. We’ve got a massive job to do next week at Hampden and that’s what we’ll be focusing on” the Hoops hitman said, as quoted by the Hoops’ official Twitter account.
The 27-year-old hitman has put himself in contention for a starting place against the Light Blues, after scoring the winning goal at New Douglas Park and playing far better than his direct competitor for the Hoops main striking role, Moussa Dembele.
Football Insider verdict
Griffiths is being very honest here, but it is not something that Hoops fans will disagree with. Despite all but confirming another league title, the most important game on the horizon is the Scottish Cup semi-final, which could see the Hoops move one step closer to an unprecedented second consecutive domestic treble, which would be an achievement unmatched in Scottish football. After his performance against Hamilton, Griffiths could well be the man who has a big role to play in winning the match for the Bhoys if he gets the nod to start the game and sending them into their second consecutive Scottish Cup Final.
