Aaron Ramsdale set for Arsenal demotion after new development today – pundit

Aaron Ramsdale should be concerned about keeping the number one spot at Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Franck McAvennie has claimed that the arrival of David Raya will provide a major challenge for the England international.

On Tuesday (1 August), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Brentford keeper has reached an agreement in principle with Arsenal over personal terms, with the deal to be announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The 27-year-old has reportedly informed the Bees that he wants to join the Gunners and talks between the clubs are now expected to accelerate it.

Raya has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Brentford Community Stadium.

With the anticipated arrival of Raya, McAvennie believes that Ramsdale should relish the challenge for his starting spot at the club.

“It will be a big challenge for Ramsdale,” he told Football Insider.

“But I would be concerned if I was Ramsdale, because if Arsenal have spent a lot of money on a goalkeeper, then he is likely to be number one.

“I think the pressure had been getting to the Englishman lately, as he had been making a lot of mistakes.

“And when you know your club are trying to sign another goalkeeper it just adds to the pressure on you.

“But this is what football is all about, if you’re playing for a top club you must expect competition, and Ramsdale should be relishing the challenge of Raya’s arrival when he does end up joining.”
