Arsenal news: Ex-goalkeeper admits he may have been wrong about Aaron Ramsdale amid ‘unbelievable’ claim

Paul Robinson has admitted he was wrong about Aaron Ramsdale after an “unbelievable” start to life at Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one confessed that he questioned the amount of money spent on the 23-year-old last summer.

Ramsdale starred for Arsenal on Sunday in a 2-0 win over Leicester City at the Emirates.

Speaking to Sky Sports (13 March), Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers hailed the ex-Sheffield United keeper as the best English goalkeeper.

As quoted by Football.London (15 March) Mikel Arteta responded to Rodgers comments by saying Ramsdale has been “exceptional” since the day he walked into Arsenal.

When asked if Ramsdale was better than Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Robinson told by Football Insider: “He has proved a lot of people wrong.

“I for one questioned the amount they paid for him but he looks to be worth every penny. He is having an unbelievable season.

“However, he still has a lot to prove in my opinion. He needs to perform continually over a long period.

“Jordan Pickford is playing in a team that is not playing well. Everton’s defence is conceding a lot of chances.

“Pickford has never let England down. He has always performed when he pulls on the shirt and that’s why Ramsdale will be second choice.

“Who is performing best right now? Ramsdale. If it was solely on league form he would play.”
