Aaron Ramsey facing Rangers axe amid new fear – expert
Alan Hutton has suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst could manage Aaron Ramsey’s minutes at Rangers to keep him fully fit for their “big games”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit admitted he has fears about the 31-year-old being overloaded after his recent injury and fitness issues.
Ramsey started and scored in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Celtic, with Van Bronckhorst taking him off after 66 minutes.
Rangers face Braga in the Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday before returning to league action against St Mirren.
Hutton insisted Ramsey “looked fit” against Celtic.
However, he suggested the midfielder could be axed against St Mirren to protect him for the Gers’ upcoming Europa League and Scottish Cup ties.
Asked if he had any worries about Ramsey’s fitness ahead of a gruelling run of fixtures, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah. That’s the only thing and obviously, only he’ll know.
“He’s got a lot of football left in his legs but it’s big game after big game in the coming weeks. I’m sure he’s very professional, he knows what he’s doing and knows how to manage his body. He’ll be keeping on top of things.
“Maybe the manager will pick and choose his minutes and games. You’ve got St Mirren after Braga, can he change that about for the return leg.
“He looked fit, he looked strong, he looked like he could get about the pitch. The games away on international duty look to have helped him. He did look fit.
“It was a great goal (v Celtic). To score so early on, it was a well-worked goal, a really good team goal and you just want to see it more.

“Roofe is a little bit different to Morelos when it comes to playing up front. You need the likes of Ramsey to get round about him. Really help, play one-twos.
“He’s obviously technically very gifted but we’ve seen in stages of the game what he can offer. Hopefully, he can go from strength to strength because there are a lot of big games coming up. He’ll be needed.“
