Aaron Ramsey: McLeish makes ‘astronomical’ Rangers transfer claim after journalist’s update
Alex McLeish has admitted Rangers will find it “difficult” to fund a deal to sign Aaron Ramsey on a permanent basis this summer.
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 31-year-old’s “astronomical” wages could prove a massive hurdle for the Light Blues.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano last Friday (4 February), Rangers do not have an option to buy Ramsey but will be given priority to negotiate a permanent deal in the summer.
McLeish suggested Juventus could allow the Wales international to leave on a free to get his wages off the books.
However, he admitted the midfielder’s demands are likely to prove beyond Rangers’ reach this summer.
“I guess it will depend if Rangers win the league,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“But then again, the wages are still astronomical for a Scottish club. They’d probably need a benefactor or some multimillion-pound Rangers supporter paying his wages or paying part of them.
“It’ll be difficult to see Aaron coming full-time. Maybe they can keep in Juventus’ good books and keep them to keep paying.
“There must be a point where Juventus are demanding more money. I don’t see a transfer fee emerging because the wages are high as it is. Too high for a Scottish Premiership team.”
Ramsey joined the Gers on loan on deadline day last month.

He has featured twice as a substitute for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men so far.
His current contract at Juventus is set to run until the summer of 2023.
