Aaron Ramsey: Pundit shares ‘soul-destroying’ verdict after Rangers star update

Aaron Ramsey must recover mentally as well as physically before he can start to impress for Rangers.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the midfielder’s fitness from Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Ramsey has played a combined total of 94 minutes across four matches since he joined Rangers on loan from Juventus in January.

A knock has ruled him out of the Gers’ last two games but Van Bronckhorst revealed on Friday (25 February) that the midfielder has returned to training.

Crucially, the Rangers boss did not rule him out of Sunday’s (27 February) game against Motherwell.

Kenny insists Ramsey can still be a success at Ibrox.

“I just feel sorry for him, it’s just one thing after another,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’ve never had a bad injury that has kept coming back but I know players who have and it is soul-destroying.

“I played with guys where they couldn’t mentally recover from having so many injuries.

“As soon as they were fit something else would happen and that’s a really hard thing to work through.

“Ramsey has been like this for a while as well so you can only hope he is ok.

“The guy hasn’t had a consistent run of games for years at this point.

“You just hope he can put all of this behind him and start to enjoy playing football again.

“But that mental side of it is so important, he needs to overcome that. I’m sure he will.”
