Aberdeen fans all say the same thing after Stephen Robinson talks begin

Aberdeen have taken the next step to appoint a new manager after opening formal talks with Stephen Robinson.

The Scottish Premiership side have been without a permanent man in the dugout since Jimmy Thelin was sacked in early January.

With Peter Leven’s spell as caretaker proving to be less than fruitful, the Dons have now stepped up their hunt and have been granted permission to speak to St Mirren manager Robinson.

However, many have been quick to criticise Aberdeen’s pursuit of Robinson, including the fanbase, who have been left unimpressed by the latest development.

Aberdeen fans criticise potential Stephen Robinson appointment

Since winning the Premiership Sports Cup in December, things have not been going well for St Mirren.

They sit third from bottom in the Scottish Premiership, losing four of their past five matches, and are just three points clear of the relegation playoff zone.

While they did reach the Scottish Cup semi-finals on the weekend, Robinson has been under widespread criticism for recent results.

Therefore, after waiting months to see who Thelin’s successor is, Aberdeen supporters were left furious when they realised it could be the St Mirren manager, labelling the move as “desperate”.

Many believe the board have simply panicked after their 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic on the weekend, which has resulted in these talks.

What has gone wrong for Robinson this season?

In every full season Robinson has had at St Mirren, he has delivered a top-half finish.

However, this campaign, it is already impossible, with the Buddies 18 points off sixth, with only four games to go before the split.

This has mainly been due to their form post-September, where St Mirren have only won three games in the Scottish Premiership.

In this time, they have also lost 14 matches in the division, which has caused them to edge closer and closer to the drop zone.

While their success in the cups has been impressive, for many, their form in the league has been simply unforgivable, especially as it could result in a drop into the Scottish Championship by the end of the campaign.

However, it remains to be seen if Robinson will be a success at Aberdeen if he is appointed as their new manager.
