Aberdeen fans rage after confirmed next manager news

Aberdeen fans are less than impressed after the club released an update on their manager hunt.

Chairman Dave Cormack confirmed that the hunt for Jimmy Thelin’s replacement was still ongoing, with “unforeseen circumstances” making the process longer than expected.

While the club did confirm that they have a final shortlist, many of these candidates are not available to start immediately.

It has now been 49 days since the hunt for a new manager began, and with the statement not giving any decisive answers to Aberdeen’s short-term future, many supporters are outraged.

Aberdeen supporters outraged at statement that delivered ‘nothing’

Despite the lack of a permanent manager in the dugout, the Dons still have plenty to play for.

Aberdeen progressed into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday as they look to hold onto the trophy they won last season.

On top of this, the Dons will be looking to avoid being sucked down into a relegation battle, with Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Dundee all but ending their top six hopes before the split.

Since taking over from Thelin, interim boss Peter Leven has not set the world alight either, losing five of his eight matches in charge.

Therefore, with fans desperate for answers regarding the managerial hunt, they were left furious with Aberdeen’s lacklustre statement.

Many Aberdeen fans now simply do not see the point of sacking Thelin when there was clearly no plan.

Can Peter Leven lead Aberdeen to a successful season?

As the weeks go on, it looks increasingly likely that Leven will be in charge until the end of the season.

While he hasn’t impressed in the Scottish Premiership, he has a golden chance to guide the Dons to Hampden Park in the coming weeks when they face Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

The tournament is the only thing Aberdeen are still playing for, with relegation highly unrealistic.

Therefore, any success between now and the end of the campaign may well be solely judged on the Dons’ progression in the competition.

However, it remains to be seen if they are able to get past Dunfermline, who knocked out Scottish Premiership side Hibernian earlier in the competition.
