Abramovich cited as Chelsea source reveals Graham Potter sack twist straight from boardroom – pundit
Chelsea have been told to stick with Graham Potter – as things are different now Roman Abramovich is gone
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the Premier League giants are longer a club who get rid of somebody that’s underperforming.
On 23 February, sources told this site that there is a growing consensus among the Chelsea board that they may have to sack Potter if there is no immediate and significant improvement in results.
The hierarchy are hopeful that the 47-year-old has what it takes to turn their fortunes around but are aware that they may have to act soon.
The former Brighton boss has overseen the club’s worst run in nearly 30 years since he arrived in the summer.
The London club are currently tenth in the Premier League despite almost £600million wort of investment since the summer and are staring down an increasingly likely prospect of no European football next season.
When asked what Chelsea should do with Potter, Hutton told Football Insider: “I understand from a Chelsea fan’s point of view, look at what they have been used to.
“Winning, being high up the league, the Abramaovich era where if somebody was not performing they were gone. The thing at this moment in time, they have to give him time.
“They have brought in a lot of players on long contracts and have spent a lot of money. It seems it is a process for the future, they are trying to build something. Why would it be as soon as something goes bad you have to change it?

“I think if he is there for the long haul you have to at least let him see out this season.
“I know that seems daft but if he can get through this season, he can bed in his new players, hopefully they go from strength to strength but you need to give him that time.“
In other news, according to sources, Chelsea are frontrunners in Premier League race to sign superstar for “£70m”.
