‘Absolute dream’ – Exclusive: Alan Hutton thrilled for Leeds after latest statement
Alan Hutton admits he is delighted that Leeds United will be given the chance to win promotion out on the pitch this season.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists it has been “a shame” not to see the Whites promoted in recent years, claiming they have been one of the standout sides.
The EFL confirmed on Sunday that they have agreed to a provisional restart date of 20 June after the Government gave the green light for competitive sport to return.
The Whites currently sit top of the Championship table by a single point with nine games left to play.
Hutton believes it would be an “absolute dream” for everyone involved at Elland Road to seal a return to the Premier League and revealed his joy that the season is set to resume.
Hutton told Football Insider: “The last few years it’s been difficult for them, they’ve went so far and then crumbled, if you want.
“To actually put that to bed, finish the season and get promoted would be an absolute dream for everybody involved. I think over the last few years they’ve actually been one of the best teams for such long periods, it’s been a shame not to see them go up.
“They’re a huge club and I think they deserve to be in the Premier League – it would be nice to see them actually finish it out on the pitch, hopefully they can do it this time.”
Leeds have been absent from the Premier League since suffering relegation back in 2004, during which time they fell as low as League One before returning to the Championship.
West Brom currently sit second in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot, with Fulham a further six points behind in third.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that club have set their sights on Argentina international who has £12million release clause.
