‘Immense’, ‘Dominate Glasgow’ – Celtic fans blown away by defender display v Rangers

Celtic supporters took to social media to show they had been blown away by Kristoffer Ajer for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Rangers on Saturday.

On a day when many of his team-mates under-performed, the 19-year-old Norwegian turned in a fine display in his first ever Old Firm match.

Ajer was solid in defence and spent much of the match driving forward with the ball, to try and set up attacks for his team-mates, to little or no avail.

The performance was hailed by many fans on Twitter, with one calling the defender “immense” as the Hoops kept their fourth clean sheet in a row.

Here are some of the best reactions to the central defender’s display:

As for the match itself, Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed that his side failed to impose themselves on much of the match.

After dominating the first-half for large spells the Hoops just didn’t turn up in the second-half and were indebted to Craig Gordon whose miraculous save from a close-range Alfredo Morelos head kept the game score-less.

Despite the poor performance, the Hoops still lead their old rivals by 11 points in the Scottish Premiership table, and remain 8 points clear of second places Aberdeen, who could only draw 0-0 at home to Hearts.

The Bhoys now head off to Dubai on their winter break and are next in action against Brechin in the Scottish Cup on the 20th of January.
