‘Absolutely shocking’ – Tim Sherwood in disbelief live on-air after Tottenham vs Brentford footage

Tim Sherwood was questioning what he was seeing as Tottenham pulled two goals ahead of Brentford on Saturday.

Thomas Frank is under immense pressure as Tottenham boss, having not had the most ideal of starts to life in North London, and an emotional reunion with the Bees was staring him in the face.

Ahead of the weekend’s game, Frank was questioned about facing Brentford, and he was expecting a difficult match-up. Before the half-time whistle, however, his team were two goals up.

Richarlison scored first, assisted by Xavi Simons, before the Dutchman was creator-turned-goalscorer, shortly before referee Rob Jones brought the players in for the half-time break.

Brentford’s performance leaves Tim Sherwood stunned

Before Simons had even doubled Spurs’ lead, Sherwood could hardly believe what he was watching from the visiting team, especially given some of their most recent displays.

Speaking live on Sky Sports (6 December, 3:25pm), he said: “Richarlison gives Tottenham the lead. It was Xavi Simons down the outside. Brentford have been absolutely shocking.

“And they deserve what they’re getting here. Tottenham have taken it to them. They get it down the right-hand side, it’s a cross into the box, and he taps it home from four yards out.”

Keith Andrews has been lauded for his start at Brentford, but with his side creating an xG (Expected Goals) of just 0.13, the Bees left a lot to be desired as one of the worst teams on the road.

Cristian Romero sending-off could have changed the game completely

Referee Jones was not afraid to get his cards out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with seven players going into the book, but some feel that he failed to act.

Following a VAR check, Cristian Romero stayed on the pitch, despite a reckless challenge on Igor Thiago, and Mike Dean felt that the Argentine was fortunate not to be given his marching orders.

Had Spurs gone down to 10 players, there is no telling what kind of boost that would have handed the visitors, but it was not to be for the Bees, who remain 14th in the Premier League table.

The Lilywhites, on the other hand, have moved up to eighth in the league standings, with tough games against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace all on the horizon.
