Adam Idah: Rodgers pushes Celtic to finalise deal as new bid submitted

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is pushing the club to complete a deal for Norwich City striker Adam Idah, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Rodgres is the main driving force behind the Scottish champions’ move for the 23-year-old.

Idah has been a top target for Celtic as they seek to bolster their attacking line after his impressive loan spell in which he scored nine goals in 19 appearances.

Football Insider revealed (July 9) that the Glasgow giants were returning with a new offer after having a £4million bid rejected earlier in the transfer window.

It is believed that Norwich have rejected the improved offer that has now been submitted but the two clubs are getting closer to an agreement.

Celtic are in the market for a senior striker, as Kyogo Furuhashi is currently their only proven frontline option.

Idah may have only played 19 games at Celtic but his nine-goal haul makes his six months in Glasgow his most prolific spell as a professional footballer.

The Republic of Ireland international climbed through the youth ranks at Norwich before breaking into the first team where he has scored a measly 17 goals in 115 appearances.

He played 34 times for the Canaries in the first half of last season, scoring seven goals in 15 starts.

With Furuhashi the club’s only current first team striker, the champions are in desperate need of adding numbers ahead of a busy season.

Celtic will play in the league phase of next season’s Champions League and are racing to win a fourth straight title in the 2024-25 campaign.
