Adam Wharton to Man City: ‘Crystal Palace take action’ as January deals lined up

Crystal Palace have no intention of selling Adam Wharton despite growing interest from Man City and other Premier League clubs, according to the Daily Mail.

Man City are among the Premier League clubs monitoring Wharton’s situation closely ahead of the winter transfer window.

The 20-year-old’s season has been dogged by a groin injury that eventually required surgery which won’t see him return until the Eagles’ clash versus Brighton on December 15 at the earliest.

Despite this, Wharton is attracting England’s top sides who are ready to test Palace’s resolve to keep the midfielder at the turn of the year. But Palace are resolved to keep Wharton at Selhurst Park until at least the summer.

Football Insider revealed last week that Palace will be active in January and are already working on signings of their own.

It remains to be seen if an offer well above the club’s valuation of Wharton would alter their position, but Palace are set to enter January determined to hold onto their key players as they aim to steer clear of relegation.

The Eagles signed the 20-year-old on the 2024 winter transfer window’s Deadline Day, who arrived from Blackburn Rovers in a £22 million deal.

Oliver Glasner had won just one of his first six games in charge of the the Eagles, before winning six of the final seven of the season last term, drawing the other, as his side raced up the table to finish a club best 10th. In that run included a 1-0 win at Liverpool, 5-2 against West Ham, 4-0 against Man United and 5-0 against Champions League-bound Aston Villa – Wharton was key to all these victories.

His crowning moment was perhaps the demolition of United where he found himself directly competing against Kobbie Mainoo, a very similar profile of player who earned his first England caps back in March after a good run of form. But Mainoo – like the rest of the Red Devils – was completely anonymous that rainy Monday night, as Wharton and his midfield partner Will Hughes all but destroyed Erik ten Hag’s United career.

The 20-year-old does not hesitate to fashion chances for his teammate, quickly establishing a brilliant chemistry with the likes of Eberechi Eze and Jean-Phillipe Mateta.

Whilst Crystal Palace sit 17th in the Premier League, losing Wharton to Man City would only deepen their struggles and complicate their fight to avoid relegation.
