Adam Wharton would be ‘huge’ signing for Tottenham

Adam Wharton is being seen as a possible signing for Tottenham in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 21-year-old would fit the profile of signing that “Spurs are looking at right now.”

Wharton is being seen as someone with “huge potential to become a real top-class player” and is young and English.

It is believed he’d be an exciting addition to the squad and could lead to a potential midfielder partnership with Archie Gray for Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs managed to sign Mathys Tel during the January transfer window on a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign, but the club also missed out on several targets.

Tottenham tried and failed to buy Palace’s Marc Guehi in a bid to bolster their defensive options after injuries, but they could look to go back into negotiations with the Eagles in the summer for Wharton.

Adam Wharton has struggled this season

It has been a difficult season for Wharton due to injuries, as he missed two months of action after having groin surgery.

The England international has only just returned to action, but he is still being seen as a “top-class midfield operator.

Wharton has only made 12 appearances this season in all competitions, and he will now be looking to kick on after returning to the team during the 2-0 win against Man United on 2 February.

Tottenham might struggle to sign Adam Wharton

Wharton might tick the boxes that Spurs are looking for, but it could be a complex deal for them to try and make happen.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Palace won’t be thinking of selling the midfielder during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2029 which puts Palace in a strong negotiating position.

Palace are not expected to entertain too many offers for the central midfielder unless it is something that’s “too good to turn down.”
