Adrien Rabiot makes Newcastle transfer decision – sources

Adrien Rabiot has decided that he’s not overly keen on making a move to Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the free agent wants to play European football.

The Magpies are unable to offer that to the 29-year-old central midfielder, and Newcastle are not willing to be held to ransom in terms of finances.

Despite being a free agent, Rabiot would have to be signed on a big package as there would be a significant signing on fee and a long-term contract with big wages.

Newcastle are not willing to pay extra to players just because they’re seen as the richest club on paper.

The north east giants aren’t prepared to spend that on Rabiot, which means a deal to sign him is unlikely to take place.

Adrien Rabiot could have fixed a major problem for Newcastle

Rabiot has been without a club since his Juventus contract ended in the summer, and he has been linked with several Premier League clubs since then.

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle signing the France international could have helped to ease some of the pressure that exists within the club right now.

There are frustrations at St James’ Park over the lack over activity in the summer transfer market, with the club failing to back Eddie Howe.

Signing a high-profile free agent such as Rabiot could have been a statement of intent from the club, but it appears they are willing to pass up that opportunity.

Newcastle

Rabiot is a vastly experienced midfielder who is ready to slot into any top European team the moment he signs.

He has made 452 appearances throughout his career, scoring 47 goals and providing 32 assists.
