Agbonlahor: Alexander Isak ‘kicking himself’ at Newcastle United as ‘crazy’ claim issued

Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin will be a “real threat” for Newcastle United this season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Isak was not “crazy quick” but has the pace and composure to succeed in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old arrived at St. James’ Park from Real Sociedad late on in the summer transfer window for a club-record fee of £60million.

He marked his Premier League debut with a goal as Newcastle narrowly lost to Liverpool 2-1 at the end of last month (31 August).

However, on his home bow, as Newcastle drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace last week (3 September), Isak missed a key chance as he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Agbonlahor has claimed he will be “kicking himself” after missing that chance after opting for an attempted chip rather than a simple finish.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I really like him.

“He looks physical and quick enough. He’s not crazy quick but he looks quick enough with the right amount of speed.

“He looks like he’s got the right amount of composure. His chance that he should have scored against Crystal Palace, he’ll be kicking himself for trying to dink it. He should have scored that.

“His goal against Liverpool was a top, top goal.

“Once you get Saint-Maximin in there as well, Newcastle are going to be a real threat going forward this season.”

Isak scored 33 times in 105 La Liga games for Real Sociedad before his move.

The Sweden international has signed a six-year deal with his new club.
