Agbonlahor: Ashley Young tipped for ‘big’ new Aston Villa role after insider reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Ashley Young to play left-back for Aston Villa while Lucas Digne is out injured.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Aston Villa have a “big” squad and can cope without Digne and Matty Cash.

Young has played at right-back in Aston Villa’s last two Premier League games with Cash out with a foot injury.

Steven Gerrard was hit with a further injury blow when Digne was forced to pull out of the France squad with an ankle injury.

Medical insider Ben Dinnery told Football Insider earlier this week (27 September) that the 29-year-old could now be out for up to six weeks as a result.

French outlet L’Equire, as relayed by Birmingham Live the same day (27 September) reported that the Digne may only miss two weeks of action.

“I think he might look at Ashley Young at left-back, [Calum] Chambers at right-back with [Ezri] Konsa and [Tyrone] Mings in the middle,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I think that’s the best available defence.

“They’ve got enough cover there, Aston Villa. That’s why you have big squads, so you are not hurt when you’ve got injuries like this.

“Aston Villa will be fine whilst Cash and Digne are out.”

Rangers

The Midlands giants are next in action on Sunday (2 October) when they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United.

Gerrard’s side are currently on a two-game unbeaten run after losing four of their opening five Premier League games.

In other news, Man United have set their sights on signing an Aston Villa star and £45million will seal the deal.
