Agbonlahor can’t believe Andy Robertson could quit Liverpool in £40m+ deal
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Liverpool should not entertain parting with reported Real Madrid target Andy Robertson this summer – even for “silly money”.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there is a dearth of “top left-backs” capable of filling the 29-year-old’s shoes.
According to the Daily Mail (23 May), Real Madrid have registered an interest in signing Robertson this summer as they target a replacement for France international Ferland Mendy.
The report claims the Scotland captain would command a fee “well in excess of £40million”.
Robertson has been a key part of Liverpool’s success since joining the club, lifting honours such as the Premier League and Champions League in 267 total appearances for the Merseysiders.
He has three years left to run on his reported £100,000-a-week contract after penning an extension in August 2021.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I can’t see there being any chance of Liverpool letting Robertson go.
“Tsimikas has done ok, but he’s looked really poor at times when he’s come in as cover.
“What would it cost them to go out and get a top left-back? There are not many around, and if there are it will cost them a lot.
“Robertson has done so well since coming to Liverpool. If he’s going to go to Real Madrid, it’s going to cost them silly money.

“With them signing Bellingham, I’m not sure they’ll be able to afford too many more big signings.
“Robertson loves Liverpool, and I’m sure Liverpool love him too – I can’t see him going anywhere.”
