Agbonlahor can’t believe Chelsea could finalise £70m Neymar signing after source’s update

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed a potential move for Neymar is not a “deal worth doing” for Chelsea after their transfer splurge this season.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Stamford Bridge club should focus on bedding the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk in rather than signing another “superstar”.

Sources told this site on Thursday (23 February) that Chelsea could be the only potential landing spot for Neymar, 31, if he is to make a Premier League move this summer.

It is understood that Liverpool, Man United, Man City and Newcastle have also been contacted about a possible deal as PSG look to cash in – but feel a deal is unlikely due to the finances involved.

£70-80million could be enough to do a deal for the Brazil international – who earns a reported wage of almost £1million-a-week in Paris.

Neymar has notched 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 appearances as a regular starter this season.

Nevertheless, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’m not too sure if it’s a deal worth doing.

“Is he what Chelsea need? I don’t think so.

“Will he be coming to the Premier League for the wrong reasons?

“I don’t see that transfer happening, to be honest. They need to give the likes of Mudryk the right game time.

“They’ve signed a lot of players. They all need the right game time, rather than looking at another superstar to come in.”

Chelsea spent a reported £292million on the likes of Mudryk and Noni Madueke in the January window.

However, Graham Potter is facing sack pressure with the Blues 11 points way from a top-four finish this season.
