Agbonlahor can’t believe Jordan Pickford could agree Everton deal after boardroom update

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted it is “strange” to see Jordan Pickford want to commit his future to Everton rather than move to a club with European football.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped the 28-year-old for a move to Tottenham to replace ageing star Hugo Lloris.

According to the Daily Mail (27 December), Everton are yet to sign off on the five-year contract that Pickford agreed before the World Cup in Qatar.

The report claims that the delay is coming from the boardroom level – despite interest in the England goalkeeper from Man United, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Pickford, who currently earns a reported £100,000-a-week, is currently under contract until June 2024.

The former Sunderland shot-stopper played a huge role in keeping the Merseysiders in the Premier League last season and has been between the sticks for England at the last three major tournaments.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury:

“I find it strange that he wants to sign a new contract at Everton.

“A lot of his England teammates are playing European football, or they want to play European football – like Declan Rice.

“I think Pickford should be doing the same. He shouldn’t be settling for a relegation battle with Everton.

“He deserves to play in the biggest competitions.

Tottenham

“It’s strange that he would be interested in staying and not pushing to go to the likes of Spurs.

“We all know Lloris is coming into the latter stages of his career.”
