Agbonlahor can’t believe Leeds United could sign ‘poor’ Patrick Bamford replacement after source news

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he is not convinced Che Adams would “improve” Leeds United amid fresh links to the Southampton star.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the Whites to sign a forward with “more quality” amid a “worrying” update on Patrick Bamford’s fitness.

Sources told this site on Wednesday (4 January) that Leeds United fear Bamford, 29, faces an extended spell on the sidelines as he continues to struggle with his recovery from a hernia operation.

Wolves

The England international has endured a torrid time with injuries over the last 18 months and has made just four Premier League starts this term.

Leeds United targetted Adams during the summer window and The Athletic‘s Phil Hay has updated (26 December) to confirm a January move “cannot be discounted”.

The Scotland international has netted eight goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Southampton this season.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I find it really hard to judge Che Adams.

“Some weeks you watch him and he looks really sharp. But in other games, he can look really poor and miss some very good chances.

“Is he going to improve Leeds? I’m not sure, to be honest. I think they need to be looking at someone with more quality.

“This Bamford problem is a real worry because you can’t rely on Rodrigo to provide the goals all season long because he’s never been that player.”

Leeds United

Rodrigo has already netted nine Premier League strikes this term – his best-ever league return in England.

The Whites sit 14th in the top-flight after 16 games.
