Agbonlahor can’t believe Mason Mount update as Liverpool offer revealed in last hours
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Liverpool target Mason Mount is “not even close” to the level of Jude Bellingham and cannot be signed as an alternative to the Borussia Dortmund ace.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old would “slightly” improve the Reds but insisted they will need to sign two more midfielders in order to move the needle.
Football Insider broke the news on Tuesday (18 April) that the Liverpool board have prepared and approved a contract for Chelsea star Mount.
The Blues are also expected to make a new offer to the midfielder after failing to meet his demands in negotiations thus far.
Mount, who has notched three goals and six assists in 35 games this season, will have just 12 months remaining on his Stamford Bridge deal in June.
It has been widely reported that Liverpool are set to pull out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham this summer – and will now pursue several signings in a bid to refresh their midfield.
When asked if Mount is a sufficient alternative to Bellingham, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not at all, it’s not even close.
“Will he improve their midfield? Yes, slightly.
“I can tell you this, Naby Keita will leave on a free transfer. Harvey Elliott is a good player, Curtis Jones isn’t good enough, Jordan Henderson’s legs are going bit by bit – and Fabinho can’t run.
“So when you look at that midfield, they need three bodies and I’m sure it will happen.

“Mount is young. He will make that team better, but he needs two more top midfielders around him.
“You can’t even put him in the same bracket as Bellingham.”
