Agbonlahor can’t believe new Bukayo Saka fear amid Arsenal latest – ‘it doesn’t make sense’

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted “it doesn’t make any sense” for Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and William Saliba to leave the club despite their ongoing contract standoff.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the trio to sign new deals at the end of the season – regardless of whether the Gunners lift the Premier League trophy.

Saka, Martinelli, and Saliba are all out of contract in June 2024 – meaning they will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in 12 months’ time.

According to Fabrizio Romano (as per his Caught Offside column, 17 January), talks are ongoing with the trio but announcements are not imminent.

All three players have been key for Arsenal this season and have started each of the Gunners’ 18 Premier League games.

Mikel Arteta’s side sit top of the table – five points clear of Man City with a game in hand.

When asked if Arsenal fans should be concerned about a lack of movement on the contract front, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think it’s a worry.

“I think come the end of the season, all three will sign a new contract at the same time.

“There’s absolutely no reason to leave right now. They’ve got a chance of winning the league. If they don’t, they’re still in the Champions League.

“Why would you want to leave that project?

“I’m sure Arsenal will stretch their limit to pay the wages if they can get into the top four, as well.

“It doesn’t make any sense to go and leave now.

“I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. As long as the contracts are all wrapped up before the start of next season, then it’s not a concern.”
