Agbonlahor can’t believe Scott McTominay latest – ‘Newcastle fans won’t like it’

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Newcastle United can do a lot better than Scott McTominay as they look for a midfield signing this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old would not be a significant upgrade on Magpies ace Sean Longstaff.

According to The Telegraph (20 March), Newcastle are interested in moving for McTominay in the summer window after making initial contact about a move in January.

The report claims the Scotland international is unhappy with his lack of game time under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Football Insider revealed last month (13 February) that Newcastle have set aside huge funds to sign a box-office partner for star man Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

McTominay, who has made over 200 appearances for Man United since breaking through in 2017, has started just seven of a possible 26 Premier League games this season.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I look at McTominay and I look at Longstaff, and I think they’re similar players.

“I’m not sure there is too much between them, to be honest.

“Do they need another Longstaff? I don’t think so.

“I think they should be looking for better players from Europe.

”McTominay would be a good squad player, but with the money they’ve got they definitely have better to choose from.

“They shouldn’t be going out and spending big on Man United rejects.

“It’s not a transfer I would go for, and I’m sure Newcastle fans would agree – they won’t like it one bit.”
