Agbonlahor can’t believe Tottenham could appoint Ange Postecoglou after ‘incredible’ Harry Kane claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is not ready for the “pressure” of a potential Tottenham appointment despite his success in Scotland.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Spurs hot seat is not an in-demand job amid doubts over transfer backing and the future of Harry Kane.

Sources told this site on Tuesday (10 May) that Tottenham have also been keeping an eye on Postecoglou as they look to find their next manager following Antonio Conte’s departure in March.

The Australian has led Celtic to back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and is just one win away from masterminding a famous domestic treble.

Spurs, who sit sixth under interim boss Ryan Mason, are likely to be without Champions League football in the 2022-23 campaign.

Football Insider revealed last week (8 May) that talisman Kane has told Tottenham he will not sign a new contract until a new manager is appointed.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I wouldn’t think Spurs would be right for him just yet.

“He’s had a great time at Celtic, but maybe he needs to go to a mid-table Premier League side first – rather than have the pressure of Spurs.

“The pressure is going to be on if he takes this job – and I don’t think Postecoglou wants it.

Tottenham

“There’s a reason why Spurs haven’t appointed a manager yet. It’s not a job many managers are going to want.

“There are questions over the budget, over Harry Kane staying – it’s an incredibly challenging time and a very difficult job.”

In other news, Tottenham turn attention to signing Southampton star who’s just established himself in first team.
