Agbonlahor changes his mind over West Ham sacking David Moyes amid £170m claim

Gabriel Agbonlahor has changed his mind on David Moyes and believes the West Ham board will have to discuss sacking him this season.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that the form of the club will be a worry for the owners after spending big in the summer.

After finishing seventh in the Premier League last season, the Hammers backed Moyes financially in the summer, bringing in the likes of Gianluca Scamacca for £35.5m and Lucas Paqueta for £51.3m.

However, Moyes is yet to get the best out of his summer recruits, and the Irons have slumped to 17th in the table after failing to win any of their last six league games.

Goal difference is the only thing standing in the way of West Ham dropping into the relegation zone, with the club level on points with 18th-placed Everton.

Agbonlahor admits he didn’t anticipate such a poor season for Moyes and West Ham, but now states that the board will have to consider the Scotsman’s future at the club.

“I didn’t see him being sacked at the start of the season when they had that bad run,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But now, I think discussions have got to be had in the boardroom.

“He’s been at the club a long time – this isn’t a new project. It’will be a worry for the owners.

“They’ve spent £170million in the summer so they shouldn’t be where they are.

“Fans were crying out for investment, Moyes was crying out for players – and he’s not got the best out of them.

“He’s brought in the players. I bet Paqueta has never felt so homesick in his life.

“This team should be in the top seven – not fighting a relegation battle.”
