Agbonlahor claims Ange Postecoglou could sign ‘long-term’ deal amid Celtic ‘tapping-up’ claim
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Ange Postecoglou to sign a “long-term” deal at Celtic as the Parkhead club prepare a “huge” offer.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested it could be “easy” for the 57-year-old to be “tapped up” if he remains on his rolling 12-month contract.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (24 September) that Celtic are keen to tie Postecoglou down to an improved long-term deal after he was shortlisted by Brighton.
The Australian has previously dismissed Premier League interest by insisting he is already at a “massive club”.
It is understood that the Hoops are planning to increase the Australian’s wages with what one source said is a “huge” offer – and are keen to insert a release clause into any new contract.
He led the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title last season, earning qualification to the Champions League group stage.
Agbonlahor backed Celtic to retain the trophy under Postecoglou’s stewardship.
He told Football Insider’s Connor Whitley: “It was a risk to bring him in but he’s done an outstanding job.
“Celtic, for me, are the best team in Scotland and I’d put my money on them winning the league this season.
“They look very strong, and that’s down to the manager.
“They’ll want to tie him down because it’s very easy for managers to get tapped up and there’ll be interest from elsewhere.
“I’d definitely be wanting him to commit to a long-term contract.”

Celtic sit two points clear of rivals Rangers atop the Scottish Premiership.
They resume action against Motherwell on Saturday (1 October) after a two-week international break.
