Enzo Fernandez backed to ‘go straight into Liverpool XI’ after source’s signing reveal today – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Enzo Fernandez to “fit straight in” at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Fernandez has “everything” after playing a key role in Argentina winning the World Cup.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Tuesday (20 December) that Liverpool are monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation ahead of the January window and next summer.

It has been widely reported that he has a £105million release clause at Benfica after joining the club in the summer.

Football Insider revealed last week (13 December) that Liverpool are preparing to make two new major midfield signings and one could be done next month.

The update from our sources on Thursday (22 December) is that the club are stepping up their interest in Fernandez and he is a top target for January.

“I really liked Fernandez,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I thought he was aggressive, good on the ball and the goal he scored against Mexico was a screamer. He’s got everything.

“It all depends on what club needs what and how much a club needs a certain type of player.

“I’m sure he will definitely get a move it just depends on what club needs a centre-midfielder.

“He would fit straight in at Newcastle, he would fit straight in to the starting XI at Liverpool and Chelsea could do with a fresh midfielder.

“It just depends on what club he goes for and what club wants to spend that sort of money.”

Fernandez featured in all seven of Argentina’s World Cup games and was named the young player of the tournament.

He is under contract at Benfica until the summer of 2027 after arriving from River Plate for £15million in the summer.
